THE GECKO CHALLENGE

The GECKO Challenge Summer School is a 5-day virtual program to be held from June 28 to July 2, 2021, aimed at providing participating teams of students the experience and opportunity for international collaboration in tackling The GECKO Challenge.

Are you an engineering student who feels strongly about ending hunger or poverty? Perhaps you have seen the suffering brought about by disasters, drought, or pandemics and you are passionate about providing engineering solutions to manage these risks. Or maybe you simply want to achieve quality education for all, ensure water security, or improve city life. If you have aspirations for any of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, then you are the perfect candidate for The GECKO Challenge!

If you are an engineering student or a recent engineering graduate who has taken or are currently taking at least one of the 3 modules of the GECKO-developed online course Professional Engineering Development, and if you interested in taking part in The GECKO Challenge, please consult the primer to know all the details about the event and program of activities.

You can apply by completing and submitting the GECKO Challenge application form before May 17, 2021.

THE GECKO PROJECT

The strong economic growth and the ensuing market development in the ASEAN region have created a shift in labor market needs. Adjusting engineer training through the implementation of an A-skill approach is crucial to meet these new requirements.
The GECKO project (2017-2020) aims to develop engineers’ capabilities and implement best practices based on employability and regional cooperation in three target countries: Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia. These objectives will be carried out through the development and implementation of a multidisciplinary curriculum supported by innovative teaching materials and modern teaching technologies.

OUR GOALS

To strenghthen the multi-skills approach in engineering courses

To encourage innovative teaching methods through the use of digital modules

To improve student employability through the acquisition of soft skills and network development

Increase regional cooperation in higher education in the ASEAN region

PARTNERSHIP

The GECKO partnership is made up of thirteen Higher Education Institutions from South East Asian and European countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Sweden, Lithuania, Spain, Italy and France.
